FxNews—Market analyst Ben Armstrong, also known as BitBoy Crypto, suggests that by 2025, Ripple [XRP] might surpass Ethereum [ETH] in market capitalization.
In 2018, XRP showcased an impressive performance, securing the second spot on CoinMarketCap, while ETH was ranked third. At that time, XRP had a market cap of $130 billion, compared to ETH‘s $111 billion. Ben Armstrong predicts a similar scenario for 2025, as he anticipates the peak of the current Bitcoin cycle to coincide with that year.
XRP’s Path to $11: Could It Overtake ETH
Is it possible for XRP to overtake ETH? Armstrong points out that Ethereum might face challenges in reaching a $1 trillion market cap due to rigid competition among foundational blockchain platforms.
He predicts that while ETH could triple its value to approximately $940 billion, XRP has the potential to increase twentyfold from its current value, reaching a market cap of $600 billion and pushing its price to around $11.

As of this writing, Ripple trades at approximately $0.529, aiming toward the October 20 low, neighboring the 100-period simple moving average.
XRP Price Could Surge to $15 if Legal Issues Clear
Armstrong further suggests that a 25- to 30-times increase in XRP’s value could see its price spike to between $13 and $15.6, up from the current $0.52.
However, the ongoing lawsuit against Ripple Labs remains a significant obstacle to this growth. He believes XRP could have already surpassed ETH in 2021 if not for the legal challenges.

XRP Gains 86% Over ETH Despite Legal Issues
Despite these hurdles, XRP showed a notable 86% gain against ETH from May to August 2024 after achieving a partial legal victory. This indicates that XRP might continue to perform well against ETH, aiming for the next milestone.
However, the ongoing lawsuit could cause XRP to face potential setbacks in the near term, as evidenced by its recent drop to $0.50.
